The Avalanche came standard with a 3-piece hard cover making cargo difficult to retrieve. We installed a BedSlide XL that makes retrieval safe and convenient.

Fully extended, the XL will hold up to 1000 pounds. The BedSlide XL installs in minutes without any drilling or defacing of the vehicle. Two models are available: Carpet Deck and Weather Deck. The Weather Deck is coated with a rhino-type of lining (good if the cover is often off). We went with the Carpet Deck model. Installation time was approximately 30 minutes.


Have a friend help with this -- the BedSlide weighs about 150 pounds. Unpack the BedSlide. Keep the foam -- that's where the brackets and bolts are shipped! Follow the directions to install the brackets. Note, the brackets are installed at the midgate-side of the bed.

When retracted, there is about 1 inch of clearance on each side, and about 4 inches of clearance between the midgate and the BedSlide.

Here you can see the chrome handle (left), which locks the BedSlide in when fully closed or open. Also, you can see the carpet lip toward the midgate-end.
