The Avalanche came with HomeLink -- the ability to open and close a garage door,
and control lights and appliances within a home.
We enjoy the efficiency and convenience of home automation. With little cost and effort, these abilities were extended to the Avalanche. Please note, this procedure erases all of the existing programming on your HomeLink. If you use HomeLink to control a garage door already, you'll need to retrain the
HomeLink for your garage door afterward.
Assumptions for the purpose of these instructions:
- You want to control a light that you already control with an X10 remote.
- The light is set to House code A, Unit 9 (A9).
- You want to program the HomeLink to turn one light on and off, using buttons 1 and 3 on the
HomeLink. This leaves button 2 for the garage door opener. FYI, the
HomeLink buttons can be used in any combination (e.g.
HomeLink buttons 1 and 2 can be to turn on two different lights/appliances in your home while button 3 is for the garage door opener -- or, if you don't have a garage door opener, all three
HomeLink buttons can be used for home automation, etc.)
- Use an X10 HR12A PalmPad remote to train HomeLink
- Since the range of HomeLink is only 20-30 feet, use an X10 TM751 wireless transceiver in the garage to receive signals from
HomeLink after HomeLink has been programmed
|
 1. Set the House code on the TM751 to A. Plug the TM751 into an outlet in the garage, near the garage door. |
 2. Set the House code on the PalmPad to A. |
 3. On HomeLink unit, clear memory by pressing both outside buttons for 20 seconds (starts flashing fast), the 10 more seconds (stops flashing). |
 4. Press the 9-On button on the HR12A while pressing the first button on the HomeLink. The HomeLink light should blink slowly for a few seconds, then rapidly. This indicates that HomeLink has learned that button. |
 5. Press the 9-Off button on the HR12A while pressing the 3rd button on the HomeLink. The HomeLink light should blink slowly for a few seconds, then rapidly. This indicates that HomeLink has learned that button. |
 6. Reprogram the garage door opener to the 2nd
HomeLink button.
That's all there is to it. Now you don't have to return to a dark home ever again. |
